Commercial food waste collection

From 31 March 2025, new recycling regulations will come into effect, requiring businesses to dispose of their food waste separately from general waste.

This will apply to all businesses and organisations such as schools, hospitals, manufacturers and retailers who employ more than 10 staff.

Businesses who employee fewer than 10 staff are exempt until 2027 but can sign up to the scheme earlier.

All food waste will have to be separated from other waste and put in a food waste bin for collection.

We are working with an approved contractor who will collect commercial food waste in Pendle on our behalf.

There will be a charge for the service which will start from £8.18 for each food waste bin we collect.

We will provide 240 litre bins for food waste. Businesses will be able to select the frequency of collections and the number of bins they need.

If you have any questions about the service use the trade waste query form or email waste.services@pendle.gov.uk.
